Colin Escott is the foremost authority on Sun Records. He first wrote the company's history in 1975,
Catalyst: The Sun Records Story with Martin Hawkins.
This book was revised and expanded several times since, most notably as
Good Rockin' Tonight: Sun Records and the Birth of Rock 'n' Roll in 1991. Nice detail: the foreword for that edition was written by Peter Guralnick.
Colin Escott has published several other volumes on the early days of country music, including a biography
of Hank Williams
and The Grand Ole Opry: The Making of an American Icon.
Some other books covering the Elvis' Sun period:
Elvis: The Sun Years (DeWitt, 1993)
Early Elvis: The Sun Years (Burk, 1997)
For The Record: Sun Records, An Oral History (Floyd, 1998)
Sun King: The Life And Times Of Sam Phillips, The Man Behind Sun Records (Crouch & Crouch, 2008)

The Jordanaires: The Story of the World's Greatest Backup Vocal Group by Gordon Stoker, Michael Kosser and Alan Stoker.
(Backbeat Books, paperback, 278 pages, ISBN 1-4930-6457-6 / 978-1-4930-6457-1)
Publisher's info ...
Originally known as the Foggy River Boys, the Jordanaires got their start in the early 1940s. By 1949 they were members of the
Grand Ole Opry and recording for Capitol Records. While just starting out at Sun Records in 1954, Elvis approached the group
after a gospel show and said that if he ever signed with a major record label, he wanted them as his backup singers.
Once Elvis signed with RCA in 1959, the Jordanaires became a part of almost every recording session with Elvis from 1956 until 1969.
