Review:
This book is the UK version of the book "Flowers in the Dustbin: The Rise of Rock and Roll" (which is also on the bookshelf). Only difference is that this edition has Elvis and Bill on the front cover.
Miller discusses some critical moments in the advent of rock and roll when, for better and worse, the course of events changed, and a new form of popular culture appeared. The starting point is December 1947, when Wynonie Harris recorded his "Good Rockin' Tonight", and ends on 16 August 1977, the day Elvis died. The book is not solely devoted to Elvis. Other moments are, especially focussed on Elvis:
Summer 1953: Elvis Hears voices
July 30, 1954: Elvis discovers his body
June 5, 1956: Elvis from the waist down
October 21, 1957: Jailhouse Rock
May 12, 1960: Elvis comes home
August 16, 1977: My Way
Good read for anybody interested in the history of rock and roll.
